The Johann Jakob Wepfer Award was first given to Prof. Jean-Claude Baron, Cambridge, during the 14^th European Stroke Conference in Bologna, on Saturday, May 28, 2005.  He has been awarded for his outstanding continuous work in research of cerebrovascular diseases and mechanisms as well as imaging of the penumbra in acute stroke conditions.  He presented a carefully prepared special lecture, highly acknowledged by the audience of the meeting.  Thus, his presentation will be printed soon in the journal of the ESC -  Cerebrovascular Diseases.
